Youth Sports Academy, Portland: what we are building, and what we will not claim yet
· The SFG team
Statloba For Good is based in Eugene, Oregon, and most of what we fund is thousands of miles away. The Youth Sports Academy in Portland is the beginning of work closer to home: free after-school sport, mentorship and digital literacy for young people who are priced out of both.
It is marked "coming soon" on our projects page, and it will stay that way until it has an itemized budget we can defend the way we defend the others. Right now it does not. There is a concept, a location, and an intention, which is not the same as a project.
We are saying so publicly rather than quietly leaving it off the site, because the gap between those two states is exactly where nonprofit fundraising usually gets vague. A page with a large round goal and no line items raises money perfectly well. It just does not let you check anything.
So the page is up, the project is honest about its status, and support routes to the General Fund instead, which is what pays for the work of getting a project like this ready: the programme design, the partner conversations, and the staff time.
When the budget is itemized, it will appear here with its lines, its prices and its goal, and it will be fundable like everything else. Until then, the most useful thing you can do for it is fund the General Fund.
